The "Back Pew Poets" are a folk/acoustic trio comprised of Mitch Townley, Gary Gilleran and Jim Human. They perform retro-covers and original songs at venues in their hometown of Knoxville and throughout east Tennessee.  Their entertaining sets often include audience participation.  Mitch Townley has had over 40 independent artist cuts ,a song which was placed in the TV show Nashville. His song,’This Side Of Sunday”received the award for 2018 Inspirational Country Song Of the Year from the Inspirational Country Music Association at a ceremony held at the Grand Ole Opry. When not performing with the Back Pew Poets, Gary Gilleran performs mostly in songwriter rounds. He is an active member of the Knoxville Songwriters Association and Red House Round songwriter's cooperative. Jim Human is the most recent member of the group and plays bass.
